I got a bunch of software installed on my laptop today. I also spent most of the day getting other things setup. I’m actually a bit surprised that it hasn’t taken so long to take care of these things. Ramp-up speed has been pretty fast.
Jeff H. scheduled me for a few meetings today. I was actually a little happy to get meeting invites (what a horrible thought) since I generally don’t have a clue as to what is going on.
I went to a project charter review for a project that I’ll be working on. It’s interesting to see how they do things here compared to what I’m used to at Delta. Some things are quite the same and some things are quite different.
Melissa N. invited me to a team-wide ‘Fast Tuesday’ potluck lunch thing. It was all Cajun food. My director, Bob R. was there and I was introduced to him. He used to work for Delta Technology back when it was still Transquest. I don’t remember him.
I had another meeting after lunch in which some developers were demoing a new release of another project that I may be working on as well.
By the time the day was over I felt like I’m starting to get a bit of a grasp on what is going on. It’s definitely going to be a lot of work, partially because everything is so different.
It’s also sort of hard not being a ‘big fish’ anymore and will take a lot of getting used to.
Before I left today Jeff H. came by my desk and asked some questions and answered ones I had. I also managed to get a card to park in the parking deck across the street and then left work around 5:30pm.
When I got home Jen was already home. We had veggie burgers and watched ‘Stealth‘ a movie we rented from Netflix. It was pretty cheesy.
I also received my last paycheck and vacation payout from Delta. Before going to bed I worked on my journal notes. I’m really far behind.
