worked hard from home

Yesterday Carole told me that I could work from home today in light of the weekend work. I wasn’t one to argue with that – especially since Jen would be home too.

I had a lot of work to do today. We have a major undertaking for the current release in that we will be adding columns & tables to the database which is pretty time-consuming because some of the tables have hundreds of millions of rows.

The application work can’t really start until after the migration is complete. The DBAs started their work at midnight this morning and are expected to be working non-stop until sometime on Sunday afternoon.

I worked with Kumar from the DAS group to check on the feasibility of ‘activating’ the new code early while the database is down. He researched this and determined that it should not be a problem. Given this, I immediately began working on the activation. It’s a lot of work and I was pretty busy all day long. Half of the work is just getting everything prepped to begin the installs.

Fortunately I’ve done this so often that I can practically do it with my eyes closed. I launched through the staging process and then activated all of the services.

Earlier on in the morning Jen left to go meet the caterer at the reception hall. This took a long time so she couldn’t come back before heading to her bachelorette party.

This was fine because I was so engrossed in my work anyway. I got a call from Alan who wanted to see if I was interested in hanging out with him (since Lisa is tied up with the party too). I had to decline because I was still in the middle of doing work and would be busy with it for the near while. I felt bad though because I left Alan hanging.

I ended up working pretty late getting everything done but at least I won’t have to spend that time on Sunday.

After I finished up the work I logged off work and into World of Warcraft. Craig was online and we adventured together. Once again he hooked me up big-time.

We went through the deadmines instance and did the whole thing rather quickly. I got 3 or 4 elite quests completed due to that. In addition I got some sweet rare armor from the end guy.

Next, he took me over to redridge and helped me complete all of those quests. After that we went over to darkshore and he got me started there. Without his help I would have been forced to find a group to do these with and that would have been incredibly time-consuming.

I made it up to level 23 with all of this which was super cool.

I went to bed pretty late but Jen wasn’t home yet. A little while after I went to bed, Jen came home from her party. Kristen actually drove her home as she was a little tipsy. She told me a little bit about it and it sounds like she had a great time.
