I’m trying to better format the style of this journal. I’m thinking that the best approach is to have the date of the entry, and then the text of the entry followed by a page break so that all entries are on their own page. This will require some work on all the additional entries, but I think it’s a good idea. Now all of the entries begin on a new page and have the same font/size for the title as well as the same font/size/style for the body. I’ve also removed the password protection on this document since I encrypt it (PGP 1024-bit private/4096 public key) and back it up to two external website storage sites (http://idrive.com/ and http://driveway.com/).

Of course it is the year 2000 and everything is ok. Basically for all of 1999, people were worried about massive computer problems on Jan 1, 2000, but none of that happened. I spent my 2000 new years eve at home watching CNN cover the turn of the “millennium”. The last week of December 1999 I bought a 21-inch monitor (MAG DJ090 from http://www.necx.com/). I also bought a DVD drive with a MPEG decoder card, so now I’m getting only DVD’s.

I was up from 11pm to 5am working on a production problem at work. There was a Y2K bug in the VALD202 program. It was hard-coded to insert ‘19′ into the century-field. I decided to stay up and fix it.

Larry invited me to join him and Amy for a ski trip in Utah, but then he wrote me back a day later telling me that they weren’t getting a big suite like the thought, so I can’t join them. I’m disappointed because I was looking forward to being able to go skiing again. Hopefully I can work out something with Craig for skiing in February.

Classes started for the Spring 2000 semester yesterday. My Computer Organization & Architecture class should be good, but I’m not too thrilled about the Management class. The instructor seems to be difficult - but of course that was just my first impression.
