wedding shower
The past week has been pretty eventful. On Tuesday I picked up the collectors edition of World of Warcraft from the local EB Games retail store. Craig told me that he was playing on the central server ‘Blackhand’ so I created a night elf rogue there when I got home from work on Tuesday. I played a long time and had a lot of fun.
Apparently Blizzard didn’t anticipate such a strong response to the game and didn’t provide enough capacity so the servers have been plagued with problems ever since the launch. Some servers got so flooded that they quickly became overcrowded with too many people playing on the one server. This resulted in long ‘queues’ to wait in before you can log into the game. The server Craig picked turned out to be one of these popular ones and I often faced 450+ long queues just to log in. It can take over an hour of waiting in order to play. This isn’t so fun considering it costs $15/month to play the game.
When this isn’t happening, they sometimes have system-wide server problems in which all servers are down. Four such servers were offline literally from Wednesday afternoon until Saturday afternoon. That’s a long time given many people wanted to play over the Thanksgiving holidays.
When I have been able to play it has been fun. I hope for Blizzard’s sake that they figure out how to solve these problems and quick or else no one will put up with it.
Thanksgiving was nice. Jen and I spent it with her family at her parent’s house. We had the usual Thanksgiving food. It was a nice day.
We planned on going shopping the day after thanksgiving (Black Friday) but I decided not to at the last minute. Waiting in long lines in the bitter cold morning didn’t sound like fun. Instead I found a great deal on a 19″ LCD monitor from newegg and just bought it online. That sure beats having to drive way up to Fry’s and compete with everyone else in their doorbuster sale.
The four day weekend was really worthwhile and Jen & I we had a great time together. We moved more things from Jen’s house to my house and took some stuff over to he place to sell in a future garage sale.
We also re-arranged the living room now that we have all of Jen’s furniture. On Friday we picked up the cool new mission-style chocolate-brown coffee table. It looks great and we’re very happy with it.
Today (Sunday) we went up to Jen’s house for a wedding shower that her sister put together. That was a lot of fun. I’ve never been to a wedding shower before and it was an interesting experience. We got some gifts and played games. Katie did a terrific job with everything and it was so nice of her to put all of that effort into the party.
